Station 5

Strongsville's Fifth Fire Station

A new fire station is going up in the center of the city, near Royalton and Pearl Roads. It is scheduled to open in April 2027, and it is being built to shorten response times in the busiest part of Strongsville.

Coverage where it is thinnest

Station 5 is under construction in the center of Strongsville, near the intersection of Royalton and Pearl Roads.

That location is deliberate. It places a crew directly on the busy Route 82 and Route 42 business corridor, and it shortens the distance to calls that today are answered from stations farther away.

It also gives the department a central station positioned to provide rapid backup to every other area of the city when a second call comes in.

Why response times matter: Angela's story

Building and staffing are funded separately

Who Pays for the Building

Construction is estimated at $10 million, and it is being paid for by issuing notes and bonds. It is not paid for by Issue 103.

The city makes its final payment on Station 4 in 2026. Retiring that debt frees up existing borrowing capacity to carry the new station, so Station 5 does not add to the city’s overall debt load.

Issue 103 is a separate operating levy. It does not build Station 5 — it pays for the firefighter/paramedics who will work inside it.

A Building Is Not a Fire Station

Staffing

An empty building does not answer calls. The goal is to hire 12 additional firefighter/paramedics to staff Station 5.

Hiring is already underway so new firefighters can be trained and phased in before the doors open, and so the department can keep pace with retirements at the same time.

Strongsville runs roughly 5,000 EMS calls and 2,300 fire, rescue and service calls each year, and 70% of calls arrive while another call is already in progress. A fifth station shortens response times only if there is a crew inside it.
